Facts and Achievements
- In 2022, Quality of Care (QoC) assessment started in Nasarawa state with the aim of improving RMNCAEH+N healthcare standards.
- A baseline assessment was conducted earlier in 2020 before the commencement of the BHCPF across all the 147 PHC ( one per ward) in Nasarawa state, revealing an average facility performance of 50.9%, indicating room for improvement.
- The governance structure of QoC operates at the state level, with State MoH overseeing the coordination of entities Agency, LGHA, and facilities.
- Since its inception, the initiative has expanded its reach to encompass 147 healthcare facilities, enabling a broader impact on the state.
- QoC has received some support from LHSS, a partner that share the vision of advancing quality care in the state.
- The state commenced operationalization of the Basic Health Care provision under (BHCPF) in 2021.
- So far all the 147 Health facilities in Nasarawa state receive quarterly funds disbursed as Direct Facility Financing, through the BHCPF.
- QoC assessment 36 HFs was conducted in the previous quarter to track progress across 10 priority areas, ensuring judicious use of the health facility funds.
- A score card is generated following each quarterly Qoc Assessment.
- The progress of QoC is closely monitored through the tracking of 30 different indicators, ensuring continuous improvement in healthcare outcomes.
- To distill the essence of QoC’s impact into a concise format, a scorecard has been developed, focusing on critical indicators.
- Since 2020, the Quality Improvement (QI) teams has played a vital role in implementing strategic goals and driving positive change within the QoC framework.

Increase Delivery & Reduced Maternal Mortality
Deployment of midwifes from the state and BHCPF have help to increase delivery at the facility.
Presence of midwives have also reduced the rate of maternal mortality.
