Facts and Achievements
- In 2022, the Quality of Care (QoC) initiative was launched in Taraba state with the aim of improving Reproductive, Maternal Newborn, Child Health, Adolescent and Elderly Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH+N) health standards.
- Baseline assessment was conducted in 8 QI sites in 2 LGAs. It showed rooms for improvements.
- The governance structure of QOC operates at the state level through the QoC Technical Working Group (TWG) with the Permanent Secretary chairing the Group.
- On January 13, 2023 the State governing body had its first quarter meeting.
- QoC has received invaluable support from partners such as MCGL, who share the vision of advancing quality care in the state.
- The state commenced operationalization of the Basic health Care Provision Funds’ (BHCPF) Care in 2021. So far, 126 facilities access the quarterly funds disbursed as Direct Facility Financing and render care to patients.
- Quarterly Scorecard is generated by the state HMIS Officer to track the progress while each QI learning site/BHCPF Facility tracks its progress across ten priority areas which are displayed and updated regularly in the facility.
- Since 2022, the Quality Improvement (QI) teams has played a vital role in implementing strategic goals and driving positive change within the QoC framework.

Taraba State Neonatal Mortality Rate is currently 29 per 1000 live births (MICS 2021), a successful improvement from the previous 37 per 1000 live births previously (NDHS 2018)

Under 5 mortality rate which was 129 per 1000 live births (NDHS 2018) has also reduced to 83 per 1000 live birth (MICS 2021)
